She talks about fevers - what age temperature matters and after that age how all the doctor will care about is how the child acts after you've lowered his or her fever. It's all about babies, head to toe, when to call the doctor, when not to, when to call 911 - up to the point that they're able to toddle and stick things in various body parts (what's dangerous, what's not). Meaning, if you have an older child, you may have the added problem that he'll leave a dangerous toy near the baby or stick a lego up the little one's nose. John Mandel casts a powerful spell that captures the reader in a gritty, youthful world charged with an atmosphere of mystery, promise and foreboding where small. As to the 'second baby' comment - she doesn't say much about a second child, except in regard to safety. Last Night in Montreal is a story of love, amnesia, compulsive travel, the depths and the limits of family bonds, and the nature of obsession. You'll probably have to request a copy if you don't locate it. The book has just been released and Unbridled Books is an indie publisher (I think!) so you might have trouble finding it the library immediately.
